Cover1 is a man-to-man coverage scheme with a single defender in a deep zone in the middle of the football field.
Its weaknesses and strengthens toughly intertwine with the no-defender scheme. But it has an extra disadvantage. This player should cover extreme field space. It open forms a space for fade routes.
It is a simple scheme providing ability to protect against the run or pass. The flexibility of combinations creates the deceptive field for pressure. It doesn’t always come from the same players. That’s why it is unpredictable. The only effective way to combat this coverage scheme is the dagger concept. The players using it should take care of the free safety in the field center zone.
The single defender makes this scheme vulnerable for the run and throws against it. The linebackers have to help the defender to control the reeivers. And the offensive lines have a lot of ways to attack it.
