7-day injured list
What is 7-day injured list in baseball?
Who initiated the 7-day injured list?
The 7-day injured list is the shortest form of disablement in baseball. It includes the situations with concussions or the suspects for it. This list appeared in 2011 as a compromise because the MLB had only 15- and 60-day lists without alternatives. The members had problems with players who were considered healthy and could return as soon as possible but had to wait for two weeks to return to the active list. Now the clubs put the player with concussion symptoms to the 7-day injured list. If the doctors confirm it, the coach transfers this player to a 10- or 15-day list. In the opposite case, the executor returns to regular activity after a week.
The clubs can retroactive this list. For example, the doctors diagnose the concussion on May 12 after the game on May 9. The first day of the quarantine is May 10. Thus, the player is ready to return on May 17.
