What is automatic double in baseball?
The automatic double happens if the batted ball bounces fair territory and overflies any boundary outside the field. The batter and runners on bases at hit moment get two bases award from the umpire. Fans and international broadcasters interpret it as ground rule double’s variation but they are incorrect. The ground rule double works when the ball wedges under the bench in the bullpen area or gets stuck in ivy. But the automatic double is always connected with the ball outside the field and bouncing.
