The Cape Cod League is the top collegiate summer baseball league. It headquarters in Cape Cod, MA. The newspapers described its first game in 1867.
It was a local league for a long time. The teams who represented that area towns and villages could take part there. League also limited the number of legions. During the 1920s and the 1930s, some local towns didn’t form their teams which allowed restructuring and neighborhoods to compete there. Some activists tried to limit the number of Cape Cod resident players. The league declined these proposals and excluded paid professional players. All participants split into the Upper and Lower Cape.
In 1963, the league had significant reforms. NCAA sanctioned the competitions under its brand. The teams could recruit players and coaches from a wider radius than earlier. Cape divisions transferred into East and West.
There are 10 teams in the league now. They are from various districts of Massachusetts. Each team plays 44 games per regular season, 6 matches against each team from their division and 4 games against each participant of the competing division. After the season reaches its equator, the best East and West players play an All-Star game. This game includes a home run contest before the first inning. The top four teams – two per each division – held playoffs. It continues till three victories of any team. The finalists play up Arnold Mycock trophy.
