Catcher
Who is catcher in baseball?
Which peculiarities are typical for the catcher?
The catcher is the base- or softball position. This player is responsible for the interaction with the pitcher. It stands behind the home plate close to the batter and receives the balls. The player requires some another skill for success.
The catcher can see the full field and it’s the best position to lead the defensive play. It takes number 2 in the baseball position list. The player is the primary link in some plays, like 2-4-3 or 2-6-1. Catchers usually throw with the right hand. It calls for pitches based on the pitcher’s mechanic and dominative hand. The catcher controls everything like foul balls, contacts with runners and the situation between the plays when the ball is dead.
Sometimes it needs to control the bouncing balls in the dirt. The players change their position, sliding the body to left or right and appear in the ball path to do this. Then they fall on their knees and place the mitt between their legs and position hands to disallow the ball to miss them.
