Cornerman
Who is cornerman in baseball?
The cornerman is the slang name of the third baseman. That seems strange because there are two corner bases on the field – the first and third. Their basemen are called corners.
The third basemen itself is a defensive player. Its responsibility is to defend the area close to the third base – the final runner’s target before home plate. The player has the number 5 on the scorecard. It’s traditionally the second or final performer in plays. It must have good reflexes to receive and throw the ball. This baseman works close to the batter. Most right-handed batters deliver the ball in its direction. Another required option is perfect eye coordination. They contact with the ball on speed 100 miles per hour or more. These players often get injuries because they get closer to the home plate, especially when the batter hits the sharp ball.
