Curse of Billy Goat
What is curse of Billy Goat in baseball?
Who is Billy Goat?
How did the animal affect the game?
Is the curse still disputable?
The Curse of Billy Goat is a 1945 superstitious curse that happened in Chicago. Its originator is Billy Goat Tavern William Sianis. He visited Chicago Cubs games with its pet, goat Murphy. It started to bother fans in the process of game 4 of the World Series. And the administration asked the pair to leave the stadium. Sianis shouted that Cubs will never win the championship till he lives. He left the stadium, tied its pet in the boundaries of the parking lot and returned to his place alone. This curse started immediately. Cubs lost their 1945 World Series. The next 71 years were unsuccessful.
The team tried to break the alleged curse several times. Cubs first attempted to do this for the first time in 1969. They played a critically important pennant game against the Mets at Shea stadium. A black cat passed between the Cubs’ player on the deck and their dugout. Their captain Ron Santo failed his attempt and helped the New York club to pull ahead. The most remarkable is Steve Bartman’s catch in 2003. It led to opposition between the club and its fans. Then the fans apologized him. It could help to break the curse of Billy Goat in 2016. Cubs motivated themselves trailing the Cleveland Indians 3 to 1 and reversed the series in their favor.
