Cut-off man
Who is cut-off man in baseball?
Is cut-off man only a certain positional player?
The cut-off man is any infielder positioned to receive the ball thrown in the infield resulting in the hit or flyball in the outfield. Its actions change, referring to the distance and the part of the field the ball was hit. The hit in front of the outfielder requires the cut-off man to move close to the outside edge of the field. Any hit far from the outfielder makes our hero choose shallow outfield for receiving the cutoff.
The player designated as the cut-off man depends on the half of the field the ball was hit. The shortstop works like it in cases the ball falls left of the second base. The second and third basemen hold the runners. If the ball hits the right hand of the second base, its basemen catches the cut-off. Shortstop and third baseman hold the runners near their zone of responsibility.
