Cy Young Award
What is Cy Young Award in baseball?
Who is eligible to ballot for this respectable Award?
The Cy Young Award is the annual best pitcher’s trophy in baseball. Its organizers give two prizes – for American League and National League winners. The league started to honor the single pitcher in 1956. After 11 years, this tradition changed to its current form.
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America members vote for the candidates for this award. Each team should ballot only one player with a higher record. The voters choose five pitchers and place them from the first to the fifth place. This formula is in action since the 2010 season. The first place is equal to five points, the fifth place gives 1 point. Any player with the highest sum of scores is a winner. There are at least 11 players who won the Cy Young award two or more times.
