Doctoring the ball
What is doctoring the ball in baseball?
Is doctoring the ball legal now?
Doctoring the ball means using altering instruments for changing its flight conditions. The list includes foreign substances aiming to deface or restructure the ball. MLB banned these methods in the 1920s. Burleigh Grimes was the last legal doctor of the ball till he retired in 1934. Since that time, the MLB has controlled the absence of foreign substances in the ballpark boundaries. Any player using these substances to get an intentional advantage ejects up to ten games. The team withdraws any fan from visiting the games if it helps the pitcher to release the illegal pitches. More than ten players were accused in doctoring the ball with different success.
