Evil Empire
What is Evil Empire in baseball?
What are Evil Empire origins?
The Evil Empire is the branded trademark of the New York Yankees. There are two controversial versions of how this nickname appeared. One of them relates to Star Wars music. It’s popular at the Yankees’ home venue. The fans use Evil Empire, comparing its team with the Galactic Empire from that series.
Another version sent us to the Boston Red Sox president Lary Lucchino in 2002. He was angry the Yankees edged them out in the battle for the high-talented free agent Pitcher Jose Contreras. New York signed the Cuban performer for a $32 million four-year contract. Lucchino told the New York Times that the Evil Empire from the Big Apple has widespread even to Latin America. That Christmas publication had a severe, lasting impact.
The company Evil Enterprises applied the merchandise for that slogan in 2008. They wanted to produce the merchandise and sell these goods exclusively from their website. The MLB and the Yankees sent an objection followed by the court process and publishing campaign. Their task was to explain that there is only one Evil Empire – the New York Yankees. The team lawyers also highlighted that it had used Star Wars music at the home arena since 2004. Those strategies worked and the Yankees defended their rights. The judge mentioned that the trademark must be used in connection with baseball only. Other organizations outside the ballpark mustn’t pretend for the NY team name and protection.
