Foul off
What is foul off in baseball?
What is foul off in baseball? What does it mean in MLB? Foul off explained. Glossary of baseball terms. Terminology. Slang. MLB guide
The foul off is the ball landing beyond the foul lines in the field borders. That means the ball hits behind the home plate. The area in its front between the first and third bases is fair. If the batter delivers the ball into the foul territory, it will add a strike into its record. The only exclusion happens when that player is in danger of a third strike. That foul ball is its only chance to continue the at bat appearance. The foul off rule works when the ball hits the ground fair but rolls, crossing the foul lines or poles.
The reason for fouling the ball off is the late swinging. This happens due to the impact of the bat on the ball being off to the bat’s one side. It increases the ball’s straight flight distance. That option is the save for any batter who already has two outs. It must know when to swing, making the pitcher work harder to tag them. It will present benefits if the starting pitcher is tired.
