Fungo bat

The fungo bat is a thin instrument used primarily for fungoes. Sometimes the batters use it in regular games, but these cases are rare. Their task is to facilitate the hitting drills by coaches. Its lighter weight saves the player’s power because it tires less than swinging a full-size bat.

These bats are 35 to 37 inches long, dropping between -10 and -15. David Allison, in his 1978 article, called it the compromise between the baseball bat itself and the broomstick. Most fungo bat users in the regular games are women. It may be a weapon too, however, it causes less hazard than its full-sized analog.
