Home run derby
What is home run derby in baseball?
How much time the player has for home runs?
The Home Run Derby is the part of All-Star week. It unites the ballplayers who need to score as many home runs as possible for the limited time. In the comp means to hit the ball in the fair territory out the playing field on the fly. That process is less stressful due to the absence of pitcher and opposing defenders on the field. The player doesn’t need to circle the field and score the run compared to the traditional gameplay.
The format consists of three rounds: quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals. Each quarterfinal pair is the head-to-head competition of the AL and NL performers. They have three minutes to decide who is the winner. The same requirements occur in the next rounds with the only difference – the performers may be from one league. Finalists must demonstrate their skills for two competitions. There is a system of bonuses: additional thirty seconds for every 475 feet home run during the initial three minutes plus one minute if there is a tie. The contestants have three swings to decide the winner.
