Loogy is a left-handed pitcher who enters the game to pitch against left-handed batters. It gives the platoon advantage over the team. This expression comes from the abbreviation Lefty One Out GuY because it usually pitches against one or two pitchers. The pauses strengthened the game, so the league decided to introduce the rule that a pitcher appearing on the field in the middle of the inning should face three or more batters or end the inning unless it got an injury.
