Plate discipline

The plate discipline is the ability of the hitter to control the game. It includes the choice of pitches, proper timing, etc. All categories are:

• Pitch recognition: The experienced hitter follows the pitcher and recognizes the potential throw to take the required position for the hit. It excludes the necessity to swing when the ball is flying. However, the pitchers counteract that, and if the opponent sees that the hitter has identified its intention, it may change the track when it is too late for the batter to respond.
• Strike zone awareness: Each hitter must protect their sensitive places. These are the space between knees and armpits. This point is related to the previous as the player must recognize the pitch and locate it in such a position to prevent strikeout and possible impotence.
• Pitch recognition timing: It’s important to read the pitcher’s intentions in a couple of seconds to prepare for new intentions.
• Swing: After recognition, they need to perform the correct swing.
• Pitch Count Management is the batter’s ploy. The player can respond to more pitches earlier to force the pitcher to throw more frequently. Thus, they expect an early change of the opponents on the mound or a late hit.
• Adaptation: the batters wear down the pitchers on the adaptational model. This means the batter at bat uses a combination of previous plate discipline elements based on score, count or pitcher’s status.
• Confidence and mental health: batting is not only a physical skill. It also supposes brain grey cell coordination. They need to trust their judgment and expectations.
• Regular analysis: The player must record the pitches or use tracking tools to study the style of the certain pitcher. Artificial intelligence systems’ high development and integration allow batters to analyze the opponent’s pitching rotation more efficiently. So, more first players may have problems.
