Pop time
Pop time is the measurement of the time from the catcher hits the pitch with the mitt to the moment when the targeted fielder receives the ball in the center of the base it’s responsible for.
This tool combines the catcher’s footwork, exchange, and arm strength. The first component shows the timing of the proper position. Exchange considers the glove to release, and the velocity of the throw defines arm strength. Taking these factors into account better shows the catcher’s ability to throw out base stealers than arm strength itself.
Really, the catchers may be good throwers, but poor Pop Time means failure to throw the runners out of the game. Good speed and accuracy are important for the catcher in the same manner as delivery length.
