Pow-wow

A “pow-wow” in baseball is a manager meeting with the pitcher and infielders on the mound, carrying out the strategy. This word emanates from the social ceremony carried out by the indigenous Native Americans. In a pow-wow, the manager and players consult and decide whether to pitch to the batter or the defence tactics of the game. Outfielders very rarely attend this meeting. The term “pow wow” is considered derogatory and offensive to Native Americans if it is used in whatever context in the meetings on the mound. It usually describes the baseball and softball huddle on the pitch.
