Push

The push is a type of baseball bet, a tie. No winner, no loser. However, baseball is often a competition with the obligatory winners. Thus, the push is the option for spreads and totals.

That means the bettor must guess how many points the team will need to win, how many home runs the team will score, or the difference in points between the teams. It works as follows.

Let’s imagine Western Defenders are -3 favourites against the Eastern Investors. The possible outcomes are:

• The Western Defender’s fans will raise some money if their team win with four points of advantage or more, e.g. 5-1, 5-0.
• The Eastern Investors bankrupt their Western rivals if the game ends in their favour, tie the game, or the Defenders win up to two points. The examples are 6-4, 1-0, 0-0, 0-1.
• If the Defenders won three points, here’s a push.

If the game ends with a push, the bettors return their bets without profit. The same result is expected for the gambling operator. So, most companies offer the lines with halves of points or more-less. It means that if you put 2.5 in favour of Western Defenders, you win if they score three runs more than their competitors.
