Stranded
OK, listen up now! Has your little relative ever caught you in an endless game of tag? I’m ducking left and swerving right, but that tiny ankle-biter keeps coming—sort of how it feels to get stranded in this baseball game.
You want to score that delectable run. You hustle to first, second, or third base when you get a base hit. You’re a victory dancer ready to be eaten like a hot dog. The problem is that you’re trapped if your teammates up at bat pop a fly ball that the outfielders grab or strike out three times. You have to wait for someone to smack you in the head before you can stroll home.
My pal that is stuck. Watching your opportunity for a run disappear with every out while stuck in no man’s land. The sense that you’re so near to greatness and the damn gate simply shuts in your face is annoying. All the same, that’s baseball. Keep your mind in the game because you can strike out and bring those baserunners home in the following inning!
