Who wore number 3 in MLB?

The number 3 hasn’t the certain positional assignment in baseball. MLB and minor teams give the players еру opportunity to choose their numbers. Let’s discover who wore the number 3 before enrichment to the Hall of Fame in Coopertown, New York.

Everybody knows Babe Ruth. He is still the example for new player generations. This outfielder and pitcher who spent his career in the New York Yankees, got the nicknames Bambino and The Sultan of Swat. The player had a dramatic story in college and minor league years. He impressed the Providence owner Will Donovan combining pitching and home running qualities perfectly. He joined Boston Red Sox in 1914 and succeeded the World Series champion’s title next year. Red Sox used him as a pitcher more frequently than the batter, but that didn’t stop the .325 batting average. His ERA hesitated between 1.75 and 2.19. Baseball fans were discouraged after Ruth moved to New York as their favourite team couldn’t win the championship while the Yankees triumphed at least three times. Ruth brought a significant impact into those victories. He died aged 53 in 1948 due to cancer, the same year when he enrishened to the Hall of Fame.

The center fielder Howard Earl Averill played for Cleveland Indians from 1929 to 1941. His major career started late, at the age 27. The player’s total bases, RBIs and triples records are still unbeatable. He became the first player who released four home runs in two consecutive games against one opponent (doubleheader). Averill had an average .318 batting average per season. His totals were 1224 runs, including 238 HRs 774 bases-on-balls. His defensive efficiency was .970 fielding percentage. He joined the Coopertown facility in 1975.

Bill Terry was the famous player and manager of the Giants. He combined these jobs in 1932-1936. He was induced to the Hall of Fame in 1954. Major League Baseball included him on the list of 100 best baseball players of the 20th century. His average seasonal ranks were about a hundred hits, .992 fielding percentage and .341 batting average.
