Baseline drive
What is called a “baseline line drive”?
What is considered a baseline line drive?
How to correctly perform a baseline line drive?
Baseline drive is when a player makes a drive along the baseline to attack the opposing team’s basket. A baseline drive is one of the highest risk/reward attacks in basketball. Players can either get to the rim for an easy bucket or find themselves in an unwanted position with few options for success. Players should gain meaningful repetitions in attacking the defense from the baseline, and build habits of smart decision making.
The key to success on a baseline line drive is making a strong, confident attack, combined with an aggressive read. Players will have the opportunity to make three different reads as they go through the drill progression:
- reading late defense help and attacking with a power finish off of two feet;
- reading good help defense and attacking with a quick pull up jumper;
- reading the presence of a shot blocker and attacking on the opposite side of the rim.
