What is the meaning of “Beat The Defender”?
What is “Beat The Defender” in basketball?
“Beat The Defender” simply refers to when the offensive player is able to get past their defender, regardless if they’re in possession of the ball or not. An offensive player may use a crossover to get past their defender, or they may use a pick and roll when they don’t have the ball.
Examples of how Beat The Defender is used in commentary: James moves to the top of the key as if he’s going to receive the pass, only to fake the reception and beat the defender for the easy backdoor cut and dunk.
