Bubble
How to understand “Bubble”?
What does the basketball term “Bubble” mean?
Bubble, or considered as the “On the Bubble”, is a term used in basketball to describe how the team is waiting for their final spot in the competition. This term is mostly related to the Men and Women’s College Basketball. When the team is “On the Bubble”, it only means that they have guaranteed a spot on the roster.
For NCAA competitions, the list is usually held by the ESPN College Basketball, which is responsible for announcing the team on the waiting list. The list that they are releasing consists of the First Four and the Last Four Teams who will be competing. Most college basketball members are waiting for the NCAA’s announcement and trained themselves harder to stay on the bubble.
The first teams to be included in the bubble are highly-respectable teams and that is usually seen on their records. The ESPN College Basketball Association’s Selection Committee is the one responsible for deciding at the bubble teams to be included. In the Strength of Schedule, they’re only including the Top 100 teams, and the rest are not allowed to stay in the competition. During the tournament, only a few of the underdog teams can join.
