Continuity Offense
What is a continuity offense?
What characterizes a continuity offense in basketball?
How to understand a “continuity offense” in basketball?
Continuity offense is a special type of basketball offense that involves a continuous offensive pattern executed on one side of the floor and then executed again on the opposite side usually through ball reversal action.
In most (if not all) cases, the continuity pattern involves a predetermined set of actions in an effort to cause defensive breakdowns and create the best available scoring opportunities. The predetermined actions within continuity offense are somewhat similar to motion offense in that it involves constant ball movement, cutting to the basket, and setting good screens.
For example, the traditional 5 out motion offense always utilizes a continuity pattern that incorporates passing to a teammate and cutting to the basket.
Likewise, the standard flex offense always includes a continuity pattern that features a back screen and a down screen.
