What is called a “moving violation”?
What is meant by a moving violation in basketball?
A moving violation is another term that describes a traveling violation. This is called when a ball handler takes more than 2 steps without dribbling the ball or by illegally moving their pivot foot. Some specific rules, like those of the illegal movement of the pivot foot, differ in professional and amateur leagues. When an offensive player is charged with a moving violation, it is a turnover and the other team gains possession of the ball.
Example of how Moving Violation is used in commentary: Westbrook gets caught dragging his foot and gets whistled for the moving violation.
