Wearing the right number on your jersey is more important than just a fashion statement. It’s an important part of being an NBA player that goes back to the beginning of professional basketball.

Viktor Khryapa

Victor Vladimirovich Khryapa is a Russian former professional basketball player who spent the majority of his career playing for CSKA Moscow of the VTB United League. A versatile forward standing at 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m), he is a three-time All-EuroLeague selection and won the EuroLeague Best Defender award in 2010.

A regular member of the senior Russian former national basketball team, he was instrumental in their triumph at the EuroBasket 2007, where they won the gold medal. He also won two bronze medals at the EuroBasket 2011 and at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Khryapa was the 22nd overall selection of the 2004 NBA draft. He was chosen by the New Jersey Nets and then subsequently traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for Eddie Gill. Then on June 28, 2006, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls along with Tyrus Thomas, for the rights to LaMarcus Aldridge.

In February 2008, the Chicago Bulls bought out Khryapa’s contract after the forward expressed frustration with his lack of playing time. He had appeared in just nine games in the 2007–08 NBA season to that point, averaging 3.6 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Mikki Moore

Clinton Renard “Mikki” Moore is an American former professional basketball player.

Moore went undrafted following a career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he left as the all-time leader in blocked shots. He is a journeyman player, having played for nine different NBA teams (Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Seattle SuperSonics, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors).

He has also had stints playing overseas as well as other professional leagues in the U.S. such as the Continental Basketball Association and the NBA Development League, where he played for the Roanoke Dazzle. He was drafted 1st overall by Roanoke Dazzle in the 2002 NBA D-League Draft. Most notably, he enjoyed All-NBA D-League First Team and NBA D-League Defensive Player of the Year honors during the 2002–03 season. Moore was selected to the CBA All-Rookie Team in 1998, and the All-CBA First Team and All-Defensive Team in 1999.

Chaundee Brown

Chaundee Dwaine Brown Jr. is an American professional basketball player known for playing with the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Michigan Wolverines.

After going undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft, Brown signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he was waived. Brown then signed with the South Bay Lakers as an affiliate player, playing one game.

He also signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he was waived after making two appearances with Los Angeles.

The Atlanta Hawks then signed Brown to a 10-day contract.

Kwame Brown

Kwame Hasani Brown is an American former professional basketball player who spent 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Selected by the Washington Wizards in the 2001 NBA draft, Brown was the first No. 1 overall pick to be chosen straight out of high school and the 16th player from high school to be drafted into the NBA. He also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats, Golden State Warriors, and Philadelphia 76ers. His performance as a first overall draft pick has led many analysts to label him as one of the “biggest busts” in NBA history.

Anthony Cook

Anthony Lacquise Cook is a retired American professional basketball player.

After having played collegiately at the University of Arizona, power forward–center Cook was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round (24th overall pick) of the 1989 NBA draft, and then traded on draft day to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Micheal Williams and the Pistons’ first round draft choice (27th overall pick), Kenny Battle. Cook chose not to join the Pistons, electing to play in Greece instead for P.A.O.K. B.C. He returned to the United States after one season and played in four NBA seasons for the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers, in a career marred by numerous injuries. He had his best season as a rookie in 1990–91, when he appeared in 58 games for the Nuggets and averaged 5.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg.

Jeff Cross

Jeffrey Andrew Cross is a retired American basketball player. He played for the Los Angeles Clippers in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Cross, a forward/center from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts, played collegiately at the University of Maine where he enjoyed a standout career, scoring 1,337 points (average of 13.4 per game), grabbing 894 rebounds (8.9) and blocking 209 shots (2.1). Cross was named all-conference his junior and senior years and was ECAC North (now the America East Conference) player of the year as a junior in 1983. He left Maine as one of the school’s top all-time scorers and rebounders.

Cross was drafted in the third round of the 1984 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks (61st overall). However, his rights were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and he was later waived. After nearly two years, he would make his NBA debut in the form of a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1985–86 NBA season. He was subsequently signed for the remainder of the year. Cross’ NBA career lasted 21 games as he averaged 6.1 minutes per game in a reserve role. His career averages were 1.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

Dale Wilkinson

Dale Wayne Wilkinson is a retired American professional basketball player. He was a 6’10” (208 cm) 220 lb (100 kg) power forward and played collegiately at Idaho State University from 1978 to 1982. He played briefly in the National Basketball Association (NBA) during the 1984-85 season.

Wilkinson was selected with the 16th pick of the tenth round in the 1982 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. In his lone season split with the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Clippers, he averaged 1.2 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.

Wilkinson played 125 games in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) from 1982 to 1985 for the Billings Volcanos, Sarasota Stingrays and Wisconsin Flyers. His career averages were 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He spent the most time with Wisconsin, for whom he appeared in 71 games.

He wore the jersey numbers 31 and 38.

As the 221st selection in the draft, he is one of the highest-drafted players in NBA history to appear in a game.

Reggie Hearn

Reggie Christian Hearn is an American professional basketball player for the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League. He played college basketball at Northwestern University.

Following his college basketball career, Hearn joined the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League (now called the NBA G League).

Hearn played for the Stampede for a full season, and part of another, before being traded to the Westchester Knicks, and ultimately landing with the Reno Bighorns. With the Bighorns, he earned a reputation of one of the G League’s top three-point shooters.

During the 2016–17 season, Hearn was selected to compete in the three-point contest at the 2017 NBA Development League All-Star Game.

He was signed by the Sacramento Kings to a training camp deal.

Hearn then signed a one year, two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons. He made his NBA debut, playing 2:33 in a 111–91 win against the Portland Trail Blazers and making a three point field goal. The points were the first NBA points by a former Northwestern Wildcat since Geno Carlisle, the first by a Northwestern graduate since Evan Eschmeyer and the first NBA three point shot by a Wildcat since Rex Walters and the first by a Northwestern graduate since Billy McKinney. Hearn appeared in a total of three games for the Pistons, but did not score again during the season.

For the 2018–19 season, Hearn joined the Stockton Kings of the G League.

For the 2019–20 season, Hearn joined the South Bay Lakers of the G League. He posted 23 points, four rebounds, five assists, one steal and a block during a win against the Iowa Wolves. Hearn averaged 12.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Hearn then signed with the NBA G League Ignite as one of the veteran players to mentor younger prospects. He averaged 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13 games.

Hearn also signed with Fraport Skyliners of the easyCredit BBL. However, he parted ways with the team without playing a single game. He eventually signed with the Memphis Hustle.

Saben Lee

Saben Anthonia Lee is an American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Lee was selected 38th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2020 NBA draft, then subsequently traded to the Detroit Pistons. The Detroit Pistons signed him to a two-way contract with their NBA G League affiliate the Motor City Cruise. Lee then was assigned to the Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League.
