What is considered abuse of officials in NHL?
Abuse of officials is a penalty in hockey that is given out when a player or coach is considered to have cross the line with an official, either a referee or linesman, by using insulting language or gestures at or in reference to officials.
This type of penalty is most often handed out along with other penalties as players or coach argue a call. Abuse of official penalties can lead to a game misconduct or match penalty, which can lead to an ejection. This is a fairly rare penalty call.
