Power I Left
What is Power I left in American football?
What are widespread Power I Left variations?
The Power I left is a medium yardage running play. It has some variations depending on the current situation and defensive calls. This play is sensitive to distance. The plays close to the goal line often fail with an incomplete pass.
The most widespread formation supposes X hitching Y out. Power I Left starts as a passing play with the participation of multiple receivers. X runs the hitch route and Y uses the out route. The offensive line should catch the defenders and steer their momentum to open the route for Y who catches the ball and scores a touchdown.
The Power I left lead smash is truly running. It starts from the quarterback’s handoff to tailback who then runs through the offensive 5-hole (counterpart to the defensive C-gap). The offense works to run block. They attack defenders and provide support to their partners.
Dive Power I left is also running play. The QB delivers the ball to the halfback who runs through the 1-hole between center and guard. The linemen provide run-blocking support. Its weak variety is option play requiring pass block.
The Seam variation is similar to the first one. But the passing play involves only one receiver. X hitches and its offensive linemen work on pass block.
