Who is called a power play quarterback in hockey?
What does a power play quarterback stand for?
Power Play Quarterback is a type of player in hockey whose main objective is to lead the team during their power play by helping developing the play and/or be the main offensive weapon. Typically, this is an offensive minded defenseman who is adept in handling the puck who will take one of the points during a power play and pass the puck to other players or have a strong shot from the point.
Just like a quarterback in football, the power play quarterback has to have the skill and intuition to make things happen. The quarterback has to know the set plays, have great awareness of what is happening, a knowledge of the opposing teams strengths and weaknesses and an ability to get the puck to the person most likely to score.
