A-formation
What is A formation in football?
Is this formation present now?
The A formation was the relict offense used by the New York Giants in the 1940s. It was the variation of the single-wing formation. The quarterback stands closer to the center and further from the line, while the backfield players stand opposite the strong side of the unbalanced line. Wingback has the opposite position compared to the classic formation.
Its primary advantage of that formation is the center’s possibility to snap the ball to any of the players. The fullback is responsible for starting the running play, while the QB is the primary passer. Together with the fourth blocker, the wingback, they created the triple threat. The defenses couldn’t understand what play will release the offense. However, the Giants’ removed it from the playbook in favor of the modern groupings.
