Aggressiveness Index

What is the aggressiveness index in football?

The Aggressiveness index ranks the coaches according to their preferences in choosing the classic fourth down for the punt or field goals. This measure centers around 1.0, but sometimes the fans see figures 1.20, for example. That means the coach prefers regular plays in the fourth down. Some football-themed portals publish personal statistics and generalized data studying the trends during the season, era, or specific period.

There are multiple formulas to calculate the index based on the win probability. It excludes the catchup situations like trailing from nine points in any quarter or any number of points in the last five minutes of the regular game. Other factors that don’t affect the AI are the last 10 seconds of the first game and delay of game penalties. This index covers only the regular season.
