Blackout

What is a blackout in football?

The blackout game is the scheduled football event that isn’t aired live in a specific area. For example, it may be a hosting team’s territory or the territory of a determined radius between the cities taking part in the game, as in the case of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. They have two 70-mile blackout zones disallowing broadcasts of the opponents there.

The media in the blackout areas use some adoptions to avoid black screens there. They offer the analytic and discussion studios relating to this game or replay the past games. This rule is spread on the TV stationsю Тobody restricts from watching the game via NFL official website, listening to the radio, or subscribing to the cable/satellite operator’s NFL pass to remove the limits.

In high schools and colleges, the football teams hold blackout games. They’re dedicated to special or thematic events. All players and fans are encouraged to wear black uniforms or clothes of the corresponding colour. Whiteout games are the alternative.
