Cadence
What does cadence mean?
Is the snap count the same as cadence?
Is cadence important on the field?
Cadence is one of the signals before quarterback starts the play.
Please don’t confuse it with the snap count. That signal is used to snap to the center direction. But the snap count may implement as one of quarterback’s cadence. The signals are built on the colour system and code words with significant meaning.
For example, black, blue or 82 means that right is playside. Left playside mark as white, blue or 91. That’s why you never find 82 and 91 on player’s T-shirts, because this may confuse QB’s teammates.
The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) published a number of tips emphasizing the cadence’s importance. Quarterbacks learn these variables and audibles at early stages of the training programs. The cadence and pre-snap reading skills are important for offensive players. The other aspect is that players must understand what to do if the quarterback changes cadence tempo slow to fast or vice versa.
