Colts-Patriots rivalry
What is Colts-Patriots rivalry in football?
How many times do the teams play each other?
Can these teams meet in Super Bowl?
What changes happened with teams after AFL-NFL merger?
The rivalry between Colts and Patriots started in 1970. It was intradivisional up to 2001 when the Colts got a place in the branded new AFC South division. This period is interesting because the original Colts were from Baltimore. They moved to Indianapolis in 1984. Baltimore is still present on the football map thanking the local team Ravens, established in 1996 as the result of Cleveland Browns’ relocation.
These teams have rich rivalry achievements. Patriots dominate in the overall statistic winning most series in their history. The 1982 NFL strike disturbed the New England fans’ plans to see the home battle. Their first playoff meeting was the 2003 AFC Championship game. Patriots’ victory honoured the opening of the Gilette Stadium at Foxborough, MA – the new home arena. There were four other meetings. Colts won only once in the 2006 AFC championship game. That was the last step to the Super Bowl. Patriots rehabilitated for that crash in 2014. They also won their title the same year.
