What is formation in American football?
What formation types are present on the field
The formation is a tactical grouping of the players on the field. It includes the executors with certain skills united for the collective purpose. Football has two types of formations – offensive and defensive.
The offense’s task is to score the points. It includes the quarterback who throws the ball, assistant running backs and receivers. Sometimes it fulfills with tight end blockers who cover the linemen from the opponent’s pressure.
The defensive formations have two tasks. Its main role is to protect its own end zone from the opponent receivers and running backs. They include the defensive tackle, at least four linebackers and two to seven defensive backs.
The teams use different groupings during the game. QB reads the situation and decides what structure is preferable for current play.
