Halfback
Who is halfback in American football?
How important is halfback for offense?
The halfback is one of the offensive backs. It positions in the backfield and takes an active part in the run plays. The halfback is responsible to carry the ball to the RB. Sometimes it deeps into the backfield and becomes tailback.
Only a few offenses remove halfbacks from their lineup. It has no substitute rushing attempts. The player has good running conditions allowing blocking or gaining sufficient yardage. It has more chances to deliver a secure pass to a partner, catch the fumble, or pass from a quarterback. The latter usually reads it during first milliseconds.
Some teams deploy the halfback as a short yardage specialist. They call it goal-line back. Its task is to catch the ball close to goal line and score a touchdown. Halfback also helps to gain five yards to close the first down.
