Hook and ladder
The hook and ladder are one of the trick plays in football. It supposes the hook route at the start with further lateral movement to the target. The wide receiver runs the predetermined distance to be ready for the catch. This player uses space near the sideline and then suddenly ends in the middle of the field. The teammate is running at full speed behind it. Opponents concentrate on the actual ball carrier, so the performer can deliver the ball and distract the opponents.
If the second receiver catches the ball in the stride, it turns the play in the wrong direction. The performer runs quickly enough to cover the yardage before the defenders react. However, the turnover risk is big, too, because the dropped lateral pass remains the ball live.
