The inside linebacker is a player who covers the middle part of the field. It must protect the gaps and support running backs. They sometimes can’t be eligible receivers as they wear jerseys with numbers 50 to 59. If the situation requires more linebackers, they get numbers from 90 to 99 too. The alternate players become eligible receivers and may score the touchdown.
Other inside linebacker responsibilities are tackling, blocking on the pass or run occurrences. There are two inside or middle linebackers on the field. Mike is stronger and usually works ahead at the first defensive border. Will is weaker and positions between defensive linemen and secondary executors.
