Longest punt

In American football, a punt is a kick used when a team has the ball but wants to give it to the other team. This attempt usually happens on fourth down when the team with the ball doesn’t think they can get enough yards to make a first down and doesn’t want to risk giving the ball to the other team close to the goal line.

The “longest punt” refers to the longest distance, in yards, that a punt has traveled from the line of scrimmage to where it was first touched or stopped. This record can be held by a player (the longest punt ever made by a player).
