Offensive lineman
The offensive lineman is a member of the first offensive line. It consists of five linemen whose responsibility is to protect the quarterback. Most of them are ineligible receivers except the center and tight end. The first player delivers the ball to the quarterback or running back at the snap. The tight end can serve as a receiver despite a perfect blocking role.
The guard and tackle are the most powerful blockers. These performers are crucial for the defensive action because they stand close to the quarterback. Of course, the left and right tackles have different roles. The left tackle usually works on the QB’s blindside. The situations when the quarterback’s leading hand is left are rare, so the right tackle has less work despite its functions dub the left colleague’s.
The offensive linemen must be tough to perform best. Their skills must include rhythm feeling and the ability to act in coordination with the quarterback’s cadence. Otherwise, a false start or offensive offside is possible. Besides, they must show athleticism and intelligence to respect their opponents.
