Passes intercepted
The term “passes intercepted” describes a defensive play in American football that occurs when a defending team member (often a cornerback, safety, or linebacker) receives or intercepts a pass that the quarterback of the opposing side throws. If a defender is successful in reading the throw made by the quarterback, positioning themselves to collect the ball, and preventing the pass from being caught by the receiver, it was meant for. Then, the pass is said to have been intercepted.
Interceptions are extremely valuable to the defense unit because they force the offensive team to lose possession of the ball. Following the completion of an intercepted throw, the team that took possession of the ball regains possession of it and begins their next offensive drive from the location where the interception was made.
The outcome of a football game can be significantly altered by interceptions, which not only halt the offensive drive of the opposing team but also offer opportunities for the defense to score or put the offense in a better field position. Interceptions can have a substantial bearing on the game’s result. Players on defense who can intercept passes are sometimes regarded as among the best performers.
