Playbook

The playbook is the instrument of the offensive or defensive coordinator. It describes the philosophy and aims of the game, plus main defensive and offensive actions. Depending on the book’s purpose, it may contain data about opposition and routes for legal blocking.

Some coaches included the weekly training cycle and regular staff meetings in the playbooks. Another feature of the playbook is the period of effect. It may be designated for a single game or special event. For example, the coaches can use permanent books with changes only in case of roster rotations. Other reasons may be the schedule formula or the proper reaction of the opponent.
