Punt return touchdowns
A punt return touchdown in American football happens when a player receives and runs a punt back to the end zone. A breakdown:
When an offense fails to get a first down after three tries, they commonly punt on fourth down. These kicks offer the opposite side an inferior field position, making scoring difficult for them on their next possession.
Returning the punted ball to the opposite team’s end zone is the receiving team’s goal. This is a “return.” The player performing this is the returner.
The returner scores a six-point touchdown if they get past the other team’s players and reach the end zone. This is a punt return touchdown.
One of the most exhilarating football plays, it features a lot of open-field running and can change the game’s momentum.
