Reception
What is reception in American football?
What players are eligible for receptions?
The reception is a synonym of the catch in gridiron football. It occurs if the player catches a ball from its teammate, usually a quarterback. A player who performs the reception is called a receiver despite its position. It must wear an eligible number between 0 and 49, 80 to 99. There may be some exemptions, for example if the eligible player is injured or disqualified. The quarterback may nominate the eligibility to the ineligible player if required. It must inform the officials about that.
Some catches may relate to the receptions from the opposite team. These are interceptions and turnovers. However, the opponent gets a sack or incomplete pass in this case. The receiver has a right to advance the ball to the end zone and score the attempt.
