What is structure of regular season?
The regular season is the most intensive period in any football league. It usually lasts from September to December or January. The teams play each other according to the schedule based on a weekly, biweekly basis. Sometimes the teams appear on the field with breaks for a couple of days.
The regular season includes several stages: intra- and inter-. These stages mean intradivisional, intraconference and interconference games. They mix in the schedule that’s why the kickoff regular match may be against the neighbouring team inside the division, the next game will be on the other side of the country or vice versa.
Each league has the personal calendar. Some of them prefer the single-round system where the teams meet each other only one time. The NFL and its analogs use a double-game system with home and away matches. Due to limited time, the Committee decides which divisions will meet each conference and interconference levels. For example, AFC West may visit their opponents from AFC North and NFC South during the scheduled year and AFC South and NFC West during the next year. Each pair has two matches. A single team from the accidental list has a bye week during the regular season.
