Stance

The stance is the position the player takes before the start of the play. Most initial positions determine the number of points the player takes to contact the ground. It may be two points (two legs), three points when the performer extends one arm, and four points when the performer puts both hands on the ground.

The players use one of these techniques in different situations and roles in the play. A two-point stance is typical for the linemen involved in pass blocking. They must have good vision and a speed of reaction. One of the feet is staggered back to guarantee the momentum push. In this case, the performer’s key task is to keep the weight away from the heels to promote quickness.

Three-point stance offers leverage and more leg power for offensive linemen. They can stay low and more efficient. The defenders have the same task when using it but adjust their stance. The technique supposes putting the player’s strong hand on the ground. A player takes the initial two-point stance with the further bend of knees and waist until a parallel line between the body and ground. The down hand takes little power on itself, serving as an anchoring point for the performer. The offensive linemen must follow the snap and ball moves, so weighing the down hand is counterproductive. Oppositely, the defenders who run mostly forward practice putting more weight on the down hand because this method facilitates this movement.

The stance listed above also makes it easy for the linemen easy to initiate head-to-head contact after the start of play. This aspect of possible injury caused the initiative to ban it. The NFL’s Commissioner Roger Goodell considered banning it, but the real steps in this direction are still absent.

The four-point stance happens when the player connects to the ground with both hands. It gives the explosion and power only in one direction. The players use it when they need to force ahead. Both hands and feet have an equal meaning for success.
