Stunt
What is stunt in gridiron?
What stunting types does defense use?
The stunt is a paired defensive maneuver in the gridiron. Its aim is to exchange the roles and slip between offensive blockers and rush the passer or kicker. They want to confuse the opponents. But it has very significant minus – the stunt is vulnerable to the running plays. So it’s rare used during 3rd downs or other cases when the offense prefers the running play.
The defenses use two types of stunting. One is when a line player sends a signal that it charges forward, drops back instead. The nearby linebacker or defensive end replaces it moving forward. Another scheme is cross-rushing. It supposes the participation of two line players. One player uses the looping path, which goes behind the other before changing forward. Modern variations include running past more than one teammate or waiting in order to penetrate slightly first and then cross behind.
