Super Bowl rules
The Super Bowl is a special game that needs special rules for such occasions. Most of them relate to overtime because the most regular time rules remain their power except for two-minute warnings at the end of the second and fourth quarters.
The main change is that, as in any playoff game, the Super Bowl must have a winner. Thus, the match needs enough overtime to define the winner. If the team scores its initial possession in overtime, it can celebrate the victory immediately, as such a score means the sudden death. Otherwise, the teams continue to play till the final determination of the winner. After 15 minutes of extra time, the tied result extends the game for another 15 minutes.
The maximum number of overtime periods is four. If the score is still equal, the referee repeats the coin toss, and the game continues till sudden death. Besides, if the teams score a touchdown, ending the game in sudden death, the point after the touchdown is cancelled.
