Tackler
The term “tackler” in American football denotes a participant who either successfully or endeavors to impede the forward movement of an opposing player in possession of the football by taking them to the ground</strong. The term for this motion is "tackle." Preventing the opposing player from obtaining additional yards, advancing the ball, or scoring is the fundamental aim of a tackle.
Tacklers may be linebackers, defensive backs, defensive linemen, or athletes occupying any defensive position. Their contribution to the defense's strategy to impede the offense's progress down the field is critical. Effective defense and injury prevention for the tackler and the player being tackled requires proper tackling technique.
